2nd TWoS and Chinese New Year

The 21st January TWoS were attended by more students than the previous one; but less teachers. Our stand (computer) have its gift out-of-stock as there were too many people who can solve the game. This time, our stand (including the others in the room) was closed at 3 pm. Don’t worry, you can play the game any time at http://tinyurl.com/twosX .

It’s Chinese New Year on 23rd January, and I have holiday until 29 January. This Chinese New Year somehow didn’t feel like Chinese New Year; our conditions were not well. My brother got sick, I got flu, etc. The best thing in this Chinese New Year that I continue to develop my website which is an online judge (see http://pc.t15.org/).

In this holiday, I also rewatched some Conan movies; my cousins and me watched an Indonesian film titled “Xia Aimei” at theater. It is a movie about a girl named Xia Ai-mei which came from China and was a human trafficking victim and she was forced to work at nightclub in Indonesia. She ran away, and met some guys which help her return to China; but before she returns, the people at that nightclub found her and sank her to the sea. The police arrested the people from that nightclub and that guy jumped in to the sea to find her. He found her, but she already died. And then “The End”. Ahh, it’s just like that; the introduction was very long, but the climax and anti-climax was too short. The media partner is Yahoo!, but in the film, the uses Google Translate to help the guy and Xia communicate; the guy also uses GMail to check his email. That is what I can say about this film.

Please help Coldplay in the BRIT Awards 2012 by casting vote on http://cldp.ly/votebrits. Thank you

Binus Center, BNPCHS, Wikimedia, and Paradise

November may be the busiest month in the year. As, Wikimedia Foundation Fundraiser 2011 starts on November 7th, final round of “Binus Center ICT School Competition” was held by Binus Center Gajah Mada on November 5th which I attend and along with Charlie, we represent our school and got the first rank. Qualification round of “Bina Nusantara Programming Contest for High School Students” was held on Sunday, November 13th; which me, Charlie, Peter, and Golfin are qualified to the final round on November 20th in Jakarta.

We went to Jakarta with other finalists from Medan and Pematang Siantar. We have a night on Binus Square (place for Binus university students to live) guest room. We compete in Binus University Anggrek Campus.

November 19th

The morning is unusual. After I woke up, I feel very nervous and afraid until I finished taking bath. The school was normal until the 5th lesson. Someone called us (Peter, me, and Golfin; and of course Charlie but separately called) to get home to catch our airplane which are scheduled on 3p.m. (we are told to gather on Binus Center Gajah Mada on 1p.m.)

From the 4 of us, I was the first to come, then Charlie, then Peter. The last was Golfin as his father didn’t know where Binus Center Gajah Mada located. There we met friends from other schools, such as Felix (W.R. Supratman); Andi and M. Faisal Nasution (Sutomo 2); Tendy and David (Kalam Kudus Pematang Siantar)

It was a tiring flight as we sat on the back-most row.

We arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport around 6p.m. and waited for taxi for around half hour. After that we continue the tiring journey in the traffic jammed road of Jakarta to Kebon Jeruk, a district where Binus Square and Binus University Anggrek Campus located.

At Binus Square, we were given 3 rooms: 1 suite and 2 superior. The suite is given to me, Peter, Charlie, Golfin and Felix. One of the superior is for Tendy and David; the rest is for Faisal and Andi.

We ate our dinner at Food 101, a canteen at Binus Square. All of us ate ”soto Betawi”, which is not delicious compared to ”soto Medan”.

We spend our night discussing about the competition, watching TV (but no one watched), and playing games.

We get to bed at around 11:30pm.

November 20th

I recall morning alarm rang at around 5.30 am. I was the first from this room to get up and take bath. The bath has hot-water tap, so it wouldn’t be too cold to have a bath, but after I dried myself, the wind from the holes under the door made me shivering. One by one is getting up and takes bath.

Peter is the only one who is bad at getting up. He only can get up after hearing sounds from Spongebob Squarepants at GlobalTV.

We have breakfast at 7-Eleven, after we searched to many places but they haven’t opened yet.

At 8, we checked out from Binus Square and met a delegation from Binus Head Office who sends us to Binus University Anggrek Campus for the competition.

I’m in the same room with Jessica Handojo, a contestant at IOI 2011. The competition starts well in the first 2 hours. I solved 2 problems. The rest I only watches the scoreboard which Jessica constantly solves the problems. Before the competition, I’ve knew that in this condition, I can only solves 2 problems.

After the competition, the results are: Peter at #12, Charlie at #20, me at #24, Golfin #25, Tendy #34, Felix #37, Andi and Faisal #38.

We met alumni from my school who studies at Binus University: Tiffany Tanoto, who ever joined OSN; and Teddy Budiono Hermawan, who ever joined OSN and BNPCHS. That day, Teddy is one of the judges who judged our submission. Lunch is free of charge and given to every contestants after the competition. Before we leave, we took photos there.

We rushed to the airport and have dinner at A&W. It was a very nice yet tiring experience. We arrived at Medan around 00.00 a.m.

Drama review

My review:

  • The first group theme was a critic and comedy on Sherlock Holmes which was not so good because the actor/actress speaks not clearly
  • The second group acted too funny, their title was “Spartan v.s. 3 idiots”. The story was when 3 Spartans met 3 idiots and they fought; Spartans won and at last they sang and danced together.
  • The third group acted funny, but not too good because in some scene, the spoke softly. It was about 2 naughty students turned into hardworking student. This drama criticize some of the teachers of our school.
  • The fourth group was about a non-magician student get into for magician only school and at last she (actually she is a man) get her love with the one who she loved. Not so good because the ending was too short. The ending was when the one who she loved fall down and she caught her. And then the end.
  • The 5th group is about 3 stupid men and 3 high class women; and a geany. The story idea is funny (but not meaningful) but I may not laugh as we will perform next and our group’s theme is about sadness.
  • The 6th group is our group. See more and watch it here. The only critic from my friends are: I and Jensen have no expression when panic. But guess what, our group, the saddest drama, along with the group which performed the funniest drama got the highest score.
  • The 7th group’s theme was about a class consists of Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Bruno Mars keep on pushing their own ego. Not too funny, and the drama somewhat didn’t have connection with the meaning.

Review from the teacher:

  • The funniest group: 2nd group: “Spartans v.s. 3 idiots”: creative, able to make the same Spartan army sound
    every member got 95
  • The saddest group: 6th group: “To Keep Walking Until the End”: almost make me cry
    every member got 95
  • Best actor/actress: Jonathan from the 4th group: very good, able to acts as woman
    got 97

(X,Y,Z)

This week is a good but tiring week. This week, my group played in the drama which is recorded by Nicholas. You can watch it here.

“Speed of Sound” from the album X&Y dominated the week.

Monday, nothing special except we practice the drama once. Before we can finish the drama practice, we are ask to leave that place.

Tuesday, we practice the drama 3 times. I almost late for tuition, but when I came in, I am the first to come.

Wednesday morning, after watching the performance from the 5th group, we performed the drama! We planned it very carefully as when I plugged in the projector cable to my laptop, it crashed; and in instant I plugged it to Golfin’s laptop and everyone don’t think that we have an issue. As well as the sound system, the other group who bring a bigger and louder speaker permitted us to use that speaker. Well, everyone who perform in this drama thinks that this drama will not be success as when we practice, everyone cannot be serious.

Thursday, watched performance from the 7th group. This day, our class are taught to sing “Ave Maria” and “Caro Mio Ben”.

Friday, chemistry lab session. Not as busy as the previous experiment. But this time we manipulated the data that we gained so that the error percentage could be diminished. We don’t tell others, but from the result we gained, everyone (except the teachers) seems to know it! …

8+8=16

Yeah it’s true that 8+8=16, and I’m 16 on the eight day of the eight month. It’s October8 ! (October literally means the 8th month). I still remember the moment of that day, from early in the morning until late at night.

In the morning, as usual, I wake up at 6:11 a.m. (woken up by alarm clock). Before I ate the breakfast, my family celebrate a very tiny party: my mom prepares the cake, set up the candles, and then I blow them. In the class, my classmates sings “Happy birthday” song to me. In the mandarin lesson, which the teacher is absent, Roselyn dance and sing “happy birthday” song for me. (because she loses a bet)

This day, my group will rehearse and discuss a more technical things about the drama. I skipped the first session of Programming Club, which Mr. Arta, an ex-programming-club-teacher, came back to teach the Programming Club and gave me a Chocolate bar for my birthday. This is the first time to receive a present from a non-family (he is a non-family, but we share the same family name) which age is older than mine.

I thought we would rehearse in XI IS-01, but we were not permitted by the janitor, which told us to get home that time (I think this is because the janitor think that we actually are from XI IS-01). So we move to the other class, XII IA-08, but the class condition is terrible, the floor is dirty, slippery, etc. At last we move to our ex-class, X-03! When I first connect the projector cable to my laptop, my laptop crashed! I restarted it and the reconnect the projector to it. Wow. . . This is the first time my laptop connected to an external display. Then we discuss about the technical things like where we would stand in the dialogue, or from where we should came into the stage.

We do that until the other janitor came in and ask us not to stay for too long as she wants to clean the classroom. After some time we separate there. I and Golfin went back to join the second session of the Programming Club while the others went home.

In the Programming Club, I was forced to share the chocolate bar with the member of the club. Then I find something else to do. Well, as usual, I forced Theddy to solve a problem in TOKI Learning Center.

At 3:45pm I went home. As usual I went to the other house and go swimming despite of the rainy weather.

I and my family went to “Waringin Seafood” for dinner. We ate fish (of course), squid, tofu; and drank coconut water.

At 9, finally I got home. My mother were using my laptop for the Farmville first while I was doing my homework. When she finished, I use my laptop for listening to music while doing homework.

I got many greetings from social networking sites. I got them from Facebook, Twitter, and Wikipedia. Mostly I got them from Facebook. Emails didn’t count as the greetings are sent automatically from a server.

At 11, I went to sleep while charging my laptop’s batteries.

That’s the detailed journal of my life on October 8, 2011. Have a nice day.

P.S. The first song that I sang (in my head) in the morning is Coldplay- Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall
