Life Goes On

Coldplay – Live2012

8 February 2013

Today, I didn’t go to school, I got a bad fever since the day before. Today I woke up feeling better, and rested whenever possible. That night, I dreamt about my friends in Pelatnas 1 TOKI 2013, playing and joking around. I missed that moment.

In the morning, I went to feel a little nostalgic when looking around things from Pelatnas: the certificate, the psychological test result, the problems, the attempts to the problems, and the screen-shots of accounts hacked during unmonitored times. I got an inspiration to create a game for the next TWoS, a game adapted from a problem of Pelatnas.

During the afternoon, I continued to code that game. I also tried to get some rest, but I couldn’t fall asleep at all. Around 4pm, I started to watched Coldplay – Live2012 live album.

First thought, I was great, Hurts Like Heaven was the first song, followed by In My Place, then a little comments for the band from Chris Martin. The next song played was Major Minus, taped in Madrid which transitioned to Paris; later followed by Yellow which Chris sang the first verse accompanied by piano chords first.

Next comment was Jonny’s, which followed by Violet Hill taped in La Cigale, and God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, which used a newer arrangement since their performance of this song in Glastonbury Festival (2011). Princess of China was next, Rihanna was featured too.

Will’s was the next to comment. There was [a quite boring] Up in Flames and Viva la Vida, which was taped in Glastonbury Festival 2011 [also quite boring, because I’ve listened to the audio for many times].

The comment next is from Guy Berryman, my favourite Coldplay member, why? because he is cool. Then it was Charlie Brown, which was very amazing, the Xylobands were there almost all the time. It was followed by Paradise, also accompanied by the wristbands. They were very colourful.

Next was Us Against the World, played alongside the crowds, in Montreal. Followed by Clocks, which was also nice, like the music video which was shiny. The next comment came up, and Fix You followed it. It was very nice, like always. The last song was Every Teardop Is a Waterfall. Up with the Birds was played alongside the credits.

Overall, it was nice, to watch a concert film. Something that I didn’t like are they are focused in Stade de France, Paris; also, some recordings are in a low quality, maybe because I’m watching the DVD version. But it was nicer than watching a normal concert, because it was dramatized and edited to make us feel thrilled.

:)

NTU UEE

Last Saturday and Sunday, I had my NTU UEE at SMA St. Thomas Medan.

It was my first time to enter SMA St. Thomas. It was quite nice, the students still having activities in the school after school hours, like playing basketball, table tennis, and dancing. But, their toilets were not: it was very dirty, somewhat unmaintained.

We took the examination at the school’s hall, no air conditioner were available [at the hall]. We were supposed to be sweaty, but hopefully it rained, and it was quite cool.

On Saturday, I had Mathematics (1300-1500), then English (1630-1830). I got some errors in my Maths. I’m worried the most on English: I think I messed up on the writing section, there were 2 topics to be chosen, but none of them is kind of my interest: increasing divorce rate; and increasing attention on fashion.

On Sunday, I had Physics (0850-1050) and Chemistry (1130-1330). The Physics test was a little bit late because the invigilator said that they got an accident. After some asking by a parent, we found out that one of two invigilator on Saturday’s test got robbed on Jl Semarang, the street full of Chinese foods. Okay, when I’m doing Physics, it was not quite difficult, but after exam, I realized that some of my working were erroneous.

For Chemistry, it was lonesome, there were just around 30 people joining that test. I can say that the test were somewhat the same difficulty as NUS one, the MCQ was easier, but the essay was tricky. And for some questions, I got no idea on solving them.

After exam, I discussed a little with Hartono until we met his father, chatting with my father. I and my family went to have lunch at Njo Nja, a restaurant near that school. Then, we went home.

It was finally over. The preparation started from 3 years ago, and the exam just lasted for 2 hours each. I wish for them accepting me. :)

NUS UEE

Last Saturday and Sunday I had my NUS UEE at Grand Aston Hotel.

On Saturday, I had Physics at 9-11 am and then Chemistry at 12-2 pm. I think that Chemistry paper is easier than Physics, but I find out that the number my mistakes are almost same. Physics in my opinion are harder as I forgot to wear my jacket, I brought along, but I didn’t wear it. I was freezing like crazy in the end of the Physics paper. Also, I wrongly answered many of the questions (50 MCQs).

Unlike previous year’s paper, Chemistry now consists of 20 MCQs, and 3 essays which they require us to attempt all questions; previous ones were 20 MCQs and 5 essays which they require us to attempt 3 of them. Well, good news is the hydrocarbon-related question was not complicated. But, I think I messed up in MCQs.

The next day, I had English at 9-11.30 am and then Maths at 1-3pm. I’m most worried on English paper section A, which is MCQs, I’m afraid that I make very many mistakes here. For the section B, writing essay, I’m not that worried because I’m used to write blogs :) The task was to write convincing essay that support or reject the idea of government suggesting people to stay in rural areas and small towns rather than in major cities. It was a 500-word task, I wrote in about 540 words, hmmm about 8% more than required.

For mathematics paper, I’m the most confident, when the exam starts, I quickly do “brute-force” on the 1st question: inserting a number to check if the equation in the question is the same as the equation in the choices. My MCQs (Section A) went quickly done, in around 25 minutes. I’m relieved for a while before continuing in Section B. I read all the questions, and then identify their solutions: I’m just confident on the 1st question of Pure Maths section (integration; 21). I skipped Particle Mechanics when I found a difficult term. Also, in the Statistics and Probability section, we were not given a data table (normal distribution table), so I eliminated the questions which require us to use that data. Hopefully, the last 2 questions didn’t make use any of the data. No. 31 was just a simple statistics, and probability density function; no. 32 was binomial distributions (which could be calculated without data table); and simple inclusion-exclusion of probability. I’m now stuck, luckily I identified an easy question on Particle Mechanics: parabolic motion, yes, the whole question was just parabolic motion. (28) Hopefully, I finished doing all of them around 35 minutes before the end-time. I rechecked, and rechecked, and still found mistakes after the exam. Never mind, at least, I have rechecked. :)

This week, I will have NTU UEE at SMA St. Thomas. Saturday will be Maths and English; Sunday will be Physics and Chemistry. Wish me luck :)

UEE

The University Entrance Examination will be held soon! NUS UEE will be held on 26-27 January 2013 at Grand Aston Hotel, while NTU UEE will be held on 2-3 February 2013 at SMA St. Thomas. I’ve selected to join Physics and Chemistry paper besides the compulsory ones, Mathematics and English. I’ve been worrying about those all, what if I messed up, what if my time ran out, what if I didn’t finish them, what if I didn’t have any slightest idea to solve them. In the end, I’ll share the quote which is common to each TOKI members:

Good luck have fun!

National Geographic

Early in this month, I and my friends went out to Sun Plaza. I intended to buy this month issue of Reader’s Digest, but it was not yet available. I spotted a National Geographic issue for this month with a very interesting topic: Exploration; and a interesting question: Why we explore.

Out of 7 topic offered, I’ve just finished reading 4 of them:

  • “World of Explorers”: this topic is full of colourful pictures: high mountain, deep sea, volcanic crater, outer-space, and rain-forest.
  • “Restless Genes”: discusses the gene that make our ancestors to explore the world, and subsequently the outer-space.
  • “Risk Takers”: contains profiles of risk takers: war-doctors, snake venom searcher, ice investigator, etc.
  • “Crazy Far”: explains why we explore the space, including future plans of space exploration.

For me, those articles are harder to understand compared to articles in Reader’s Digest. Maybe the consumer target for this magazine isn’t teenager like me. But I will read it.

5 January 2013

5 January 2013

My day was started on 8:20. After cleaning myself, I got a missed-call from Leonard, so I called back, it was his problem: mistook a subject which require chemistry on entrance exam, well, I answered well what he asked. I had my breakfast on 9.30 and my shower on 10. Golfin came around 10.35 and we went to Sun Plaza after picking up Leonard.

We were the first to come. Eventually, the others showed up one by one as we walked around the plaza: Lenny, Edward, Vicky, Roselyn.

We took our lunch at Sushi-tei. We ordered many variety of Japanese foods. For us, the soba (the cold noodle) was the worst one: it was tasteless.

After lunch, we went to Amazone. There we played many games, like air-hockey, and weight-pulling (this one we got high-score as we combined the power of 8 people, haha). Last but not least, we took photos at the photo-box provided by them.

We went around to look for a cafe to have drinks, and at last we decided to go to J.Co. There I left them a while to buy Coldplay’s newest live album titled “Live 2012”. For my drink, I had Chocholate Frappe.

After that, we went to Gramedia. Here, I looked for the newest Reader’s Digest but found none, as replacement, I bought my first English version of National Geographic magazine. Actually, my uncle have subscribed to National Geographic since 1980s but at 2010 he cancelled the subscription. At 2006-2007, he also subscribed National Geographic Indonesia for me, at first it was very interesting, but eventually, I got no time to read it.

Got home at 5 and went directly to Malibu’s home. Arrived at 6, we still went swimming. We had dinner at 7, and I went online after that.

First week of 2013

5 January 2013

First week of January 2013 has been spent a lot on web-developing, playing games, and thinking.

1 January 2013

On this day, I and my family went to Pantai Pondok Permain, Pantai Cermin, Serdang Bedagai. We departed from Medan on 10 and arrived there on 12. It was extremely crowded! Every corner was filled with men. Luckily we found a parking slot near the restaurant and (luckily again) found an empty table on the restaurant near the beach. We ordered Rajungan, prawns, Gurami, and Stingray. We had fresh coconut and tea as our beverage. After lunch, we just enjoyed the view and then went home. On the way home, I noticed that Lenny and her family was on their way in to the beach. On home, I also noticed that Jason, another friend of mine, was on that beach too as he also checked in to that beach on Foursquare.

2 January 2013

The morning was spent on GTA: San Andreas, it was very nostalgic, haha. In the afternoon, Golfin came to my house. First, he asked something related to Javascript and jQuery, then we just having conversation until 5 pm.

3 January 2013

The morning was spent on MGS 3: Snake Eater, I continued the last saved file: it was fighting Volgin; and played until the end of the game, then replayed it until some place before the end of Virtuous Mission.

In the afternoon, I had tuition, a long one. The night was spent on web-developing.

4 January 2013

Spent my time on Wikipedia, judging articles that passed the criteria of 2013 Marathon. This “marathon” was intended to increase Wikipedia article, and the winner (who had the most article which passed the criteria) will get a souvenir from Wikimedia Indonesia. Got sleepy around 3 pm and eventually took a nap. It was 4 and my tuition started at 4! I rushed there, haha; but luckily I got a good seat. The night, my Mousehunt team joined a tournament, the results: we got another Participant point.

5 January 2013

*this was long, and will be posted separately, haha*
