30 March 2014
This week has been an eventful week. Starting from a group project presentation, joined the exhibitions, first time donating blood, meditation class, first aid workshop, and attending a far Sunday Service.
On Monday, our group presented on the EE8087 Living with Mathematics course about Mathematics in Gambling, specifically we talked about the maths in poker. We were the first group to present, and we were underprepared. Some minutes before 5pm, the professor came, and we started the presentation. Kris, finished the introduction in just 2 minutes, while Stephen need 7 minutes to finish the “how to play” part. And then in my part about analysis, I can’t believe I covered around 30 slides in around 10 minutes before passing to Hendry who talks about the strategy and conclusion. Although we were not very good compared to the next 2 groups, I was relieved that the presentation has been done. Next thing to do was to do the project report.
At the night, I went to Dashsell office with Joshua, after visiting Stephen’s room. Quickly, I done my part and got paid. This is the first time I got paid for a project.
On Tuesday, I looked around and played games at Greenfest 2014, an exhibition by Earthlink NTU, and I won a goodie bag, and a cactus, which causes me to be late by a few minutes for my first lecture on that day. At the afternoon, the lab of CZ1006 (Computer Organization and Architecture) was a nice one, because we apply the concepts learned so far to an Ardurino Uno micro-controller, and see how the communication signal was done via an oscilloscope. The lab ended in a quiz, which I found quite hard. After that I had lecture on Business Finance, where, again, it was quickly done and the lecturer share another story related to perception.
On Wednesday, I forget to do my morning tutorials (again). Just in the class that I quickly do the tutorial while the tutor slowly explain them. After lunch, I went to SSLP for a while before attending CM8001 lecture, where the lecturer seemed not happy to our midterm result. After the lecture, which stopped quiet early, I went to find the venue for BU8201 quiz which will be held next week, hmm it was not far from normal tutorial class. After the tutorial class, I went to Giant before going back. At the night, I joined Hall XI’s Hall Night 2014, themed as a flight, we were served with entertainment and foods. Although the videos shown and the quizzes are JCRC-oriented, I felt that this event was still a nice one. Besides that, in one of the quizzes, I and Hartono won a prize (I won a Starbucks card by the way); and at the lucky draw, Hartono won a pair of tickets to Adventure Cove. The event ended with “the flight have arrived in Hall 11, and accommodations are provided in Block 53 until 56”. :)
On Thursday, I went for blood donation at Blood Drive 2014, organized by NTU Red Cross Youth. First, I went there early and after filling the form, I went for the administration things. Next step is verifying the form by a doctor, and then checking my hemoglobin level. After that, they directly asked me to lay down and do the blood donation process. It took some time, and after finish, I rested at refreshment area, which I met some new people, and I somehow feel full after taking too much of the refreshments. After that I straightly went to LWN Library before having lunch and returned back to the library. This time, I felt somehow dizzy, but I keep attending the classes until 1730 before I went back by bus.
On Friday, the class started at 1030 with tutorial and then lecture of CZ1008 Engineering Mathematics. After my part-time work at CITS at LWN Library, I went to NYH, helping setting up NTUBS meditation class III. In the meditation class, I somehow can’t concentrate well, and got distracted by the numbness of my feet.
On Saturday, I started the day with the First Aid Workshop by NTU Red Cross Youth until noon. The workshop introduces us some new knowledge and cleared some misconceptions, although the rest was not so applicable. After the lunch, I went back to do laundry and room cleaning. And this day I mostly got distracted by the game Monkey City from Ninjakiwi. At the night, I quickly done the assignment 2 of CZ1007 (with some unclarified assumptions, and no code comments at all) which was just released at the afternoon. At the midnight, I went to join the celebration of Steven Hartawan’s birthday at his room at Hall 1.
On Sunday, I went with Diego to Manjusri Secondary School to attend the Sunday Service by Singapore Buddhist Federation. It was a long trip (the school was around Eunos). The talk by Bro Kwek at the service was about Finding the Buddha. He shared some stories about some people who wanted to see and eventually seen the Buddha. He concludes that seeing the Buddha will not have any effect on one if one did not practice the Dhamma well.
“Enough, Vakkali! What is there to see in this vile body? He who sees Dhamma, Vakkali, sees me; he who sees me sees Dhamma. Truly seeing Dhamma, one sees me; seeing me one sees Dhamma.” (SN 22.87)
After the service, I joined their lunch at a coffee shop nearby, which I met some people from my hometown, who knew my brother. At 1430, I started my journey going back to NTU and finally arrived at my room on 1630 after had a haircut at Boon Lay. Next, I took a nap before I started to revise Business Finance, especially training to use the financial calculator I borrowed from Stephen.
Next week, I will have a quiz on Business Finance. Besides that, the week should be not a busy one.
