Pre-semester 3

10 August 2014

This week is the last week of holiday at NTU. Although I had many free times, most of them are filled up quite well, while the rest are just “killed”. This week is also the last week of me having 4 part-time shifts on a week, at least until a few months ahead. Besides that, this week I’ve been having fun by going out to Adventure Cove, working on NTUBS not-secret-anymore Secret Project, and swimming with friends. …

CNS 2014

3 August 2014

CNS 2014 was a FOC from NTU Buddhist Society. Titled “This Is It!”, the camp features The Four Noble Truths as its theme. Held on 29 July to 1 August, this camp is one of the most tiring and memorable camp I’ve ever joined. The camp itself was so big that the preparation itself took around 6 months and we need a goods van only to transport the stuffs to and from different venues. Besides that, I’ve always amazed when someone explains the Four Noble Truths and goes on to the twelve links of Dependent Origination. …

July 2014 (2)

21 July 2014

This week is the 2nd week before CNS 2014. I started the week with a relaxing pace but it ended with a such busy and tiring one as in Saturday and Sunday, the committees had a trial camp of CNS 2014 from morning till night. …

June 2014

6 July 2014

I’m back to Singapore again. This time, to start another year of being a student at NTU.

The previous month has been a tiring one of traveling, studying, and suffering.

I and my family went to Toronto, Canada to visit my brother, who is currently doing PhD there, and we all went for a vacation around there. The routes are: Toronto, Washington DC, Baltimore, New York City, Boston, Portland (Maine), Albany (NY), Montreal, Ottawa, and finally Toronto. We visited landmarks, museums, a library, universities, markets, and shopping centers; including University of Toronto, Niagara Falls, CN Tower, the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Institution Natural History Museum, Smithsonian Institution Air and Space Museum, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Lexington Market, Central Park, Liberty Statue, Greenwich Village, United Nations Headquarter, Harvard, MIT, churches of Montreal, McGill University, and Canadian Parliament.

That’s it for the traveling part, I studied because of me joining Awaken Challenge 2014, representing NTU Buddhist Society, alongside with Yan Xiang, Aryani, and Stephen. In my travel, well I spent every night reading the book titled “The Buddha and His Teachings” by Ven. Narada and the book is deep about Buddhism especially Theravada Buddhism. Back to Singapore, where we had some meetings and preparations, I then focused on passing the preliminary round by revising on the book “Buddhism for Beginners”, since we were required to answer the questions individually. Luckily I did not messed up and we went to the semi-finals and then finals, where we won thanks to Yan Xiang, Aryani, and Stephen, also the coaches: Andy, Benny, Chun Wah, Dhika, and Raymond; and the supporters: Si Hui, Ivan, Xin Wen, and Ze Yong.

And for the suffering part, the CNS Logistics things were not settled yet. The uncertainties and waiting and unavailability to act makes everything more complex. Now I’m back here in Singapore to start and try settling the things. May CNS be well run and not be messed up by me.

Well, I’m back in Singapore. Let’s hope I can survive another year at NTU.

Holiday (3)

1 June 2014

Another week has ended. The week was filled with “doing nothing” (read: procrastinating), “working”, watching movies, (little of) studying, and swimming (yeah!). …

Buddhism and Modern Psychology: Final Assignment

I have been following the course Buddhism and Modern Psychology on Coursera since March 2014. On the final week, the final assignment was released and I submitted an essay. Well, it turned out to be a very good one as I received 12/12 total score. This post contains the instructions, the questions, my essay, and the summary of the peer evaluation feedback. …
