(rushing, because I have procrastinated a lot in my holiday)

I started off December with my last final exam on CZ4042 Neural Networks. It was an open book examination and I felt I did quite okay in it. Then, on 5th, I presented my FYP to my prof and examiner; some of my friends were also there watching. My prof later told me that, I should come back the day after for some further discussion regarding my FYP: she wanted me to just reformat my FYP and publish it on ArXiv.

In my final days in NTU hall, I attended a PINTU photo shoot, packed my stuffs, spent lots of hours playing games (Tropico 5, Cities:Skylines). On 7 Dec, I moved out from NTU hall. Moving was done via Lalamove which was booked earlier on, but during the appointed time, the driver wasn’t contactable, such that I called Lalamove support and they changed the driver. The 2nd driver got lost in NTU but after some time, finally we met. Quickly, I loaded all my stuffs inside the van. It was just half full. I tagged along in the van to Boathouse. The journey there was quite hot as the car aircon isn’t working well. The driver also helped the unloading part with lots of trolleys. Because of this, the unloading only took 1 trip. After finished moving, I already gained around 10k steps (and it was just around 3 pm). I was really tired.

There were few days spent here before I went back to Medan. I spent the first night going to Hougang Central, bought an HDMI cable (to connect my laptop to the TV), and watched The Martian. It was a really nice movie. After that, I continued with playing Cities:Skylines on TV. Woah, it was really nice having a large screen and managing a city. This time, my Bluetooth keyboard and long-wired mouse were put into a good use.

The next day, I woke up quite early to go to Heartland Mall, Kovan, meeting Hadi Wijaya who presented to me some stuff about finance and investment. Honestly I didn’t feel like meeting him but since I was free, so why not. #TIL: There is a kind of investment where you can sell some kind of stock (even when you own nothing) before buying it back. After that meeting, I went around at Heartland Mall and found one laundry shop. I ate lunch at the hawker centre next to the mall before going to Hougang Central again. At Hougang Central, I found another laundry shop, and then I shopped at Fairprice. Going back, I watched The Reverant. The picture was really good, but the story wasn’t. I continued with having nap, playing more games, swimming, and then had dinner at the small hawker center on the opposite of Boathouse, around the HDB area. The night was spent on watching Star Trek: Into the Darkness (it was also very good) and playing Cities:Skylines.

On 9th December, I essentially spent the whole day playing game and watching movies to the point that I was bored with them. Lunch was taken at another hawker centre (Foodfare) along Boathouse, where I found a coin laundry shop and another Fairprice. I went in and bought ice cream to eat along when watching Avatar (James Cameron’s one) later on. The movie was long and really nice. There was call-to-adventure, main character had fun exploring and gaining experience, having conflicts, and best of all, a happy ending. I ate dinner at the hawker centre opposite Boathouse again and then go on to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I went back to Medan on 10 December. Going to airport quite early by bus from Hougang Central. In Medan, days were passed with boring routines: Play games and other chores

Some tasks that were planned to be done in this holiday were done quickly

I tried to set up my 2nd Pine board but I misconfigured it such that DHCP client was off and I couldn’t ssh into it anymore. I planned to just reflash it with the disk of the 1st Pine board once I got back to Singapore
I wrote a manga reader with Electron and Vue.js, then caught up with the latest Detective Conan manga. Whew, Akai’s family was complicated.

This holiday, I downloaded more games (legally from Steam, bought at Humble Bundle at a highly discounted price :P ). I spent way too much hours on Prison Architect, an addictive prison building-and-managing game, with a “campaign” (story mode), sandbox mode, and also escape mode. I also started and finished Chroma Squad on casual (easy/ way too easy) mode. The story was okay, though I felt too much reference to Kickstarter backers were mentioned. Besides that, I continues playing on Cities:Skylines.

On movies, I watched Rouge One on the day after it premiered in cinemas. Besides that, I also caught up with TBBT season 10 and Star Wars Rebels season 3.

On friends, I caught up with friends from high school, where we ate at Seoul Garden CP at Christmas Eve (irrelevant info as we don’t really have anything Christmasy :P ). Besides that, on 29th, Golfin came to my house to do the usual data transfer thingy :P

2013 in Review

Many things happened in 2013, just like in 2012. The following lists what have happened to me in 2013:

January: The New Year holiday was spent with family and friends. After that I focused on the university entrance examinations. In end of January, NUS UEE was held.
February: After NTU UEE in early February, here comes the Chinese New Year (packed with The Wonder of Science).
March: I GOT ACCEPTED TO NTU! Besides, the school held the final school exam. I also held a mini programming contest at the programming club.
April: I went to Jakarta to attend NTU Scholarship Interview, but I failed to get the scholarship. This month is the last month of studying in high school (my story of last day of school). After we got a national examinations, the school held a prom nite and our class held a farewell trip.
May: the starting point of the transition from a high school student to a university student. I’ve done my CS188.1x: Artificial Intelligence, taught programming at the programming club, joined TWoS, restarted my LM project, started Introduction to Pyschology, and resurrecting the desktop computer. Like last year, I posted my thoughts for Vesak Day. By the way, I got the news that I’ve passed the National Examination.
June started with me getting my report card and National Examination results; going for the first photo session with Mr. Johnson; continuing Introduction to Psychology; starting First Year Composition 2.0; stopping LM2 and starting LM2C. Next weeks, I continued the MOOCs; SSEC meeting (which resulted in drafting a “constitution”); and met seniors of NTU in an informal meeting.
On July, I started many things while some old ones are finished or discontinued. On the 3rd week, my form-teacher, Mr. Manaek Nababan, passed away. On the last week of July, I tidied my stuffs; and started to supervise PJJ OSN.
On August, I arrived at NTU, joined PINTU’s FOC, started many first things. Many events we held on the first weeks, e.g. NTUSU Welcome Week, NTUBS Welcome Tea, NTUBS subcomm recruitment, NTU OSS Welcome Tea, Hall XI Welcome Tea, NTUBS AGM, PINTU’s T-SPRAY.
On September, OSN 2013 was held, this time I was watching the scoreboard movements hoping that my juniors can score well. Then, I bought new laptop! Also ordered a Microsoft Surface RT. I was getting more and more busier this month, hopefully the end of September is e-learning week and then recess week.
My birthday is on October, and got celebrated. I finished many assignments, collected my Surface RT, then attended NTUBS Committee Day. End of October is the pre-climax of my semester.
November started with the climax of my semester: quizzes, speech assignment, and presentation which I survived all of them. After that, the weeks are quite relaxing. The last classes were held, and there comes the revision week which ended with a first examination. November ended with more examinations.
December started with the passing of my grandfather and the end of examinations, also the very first Indonesian SCE freshies outing. Before going back to my hometown, I joined a 4-day bootcamp held by NTU Ventures with speaker from Mozilla. In my hometown, the weeks are spent variously on playing games, developing game, and joining MOOC.

Here comes the end of 2013, happy new year 2014. This blog is never been this crowded before. Thank you for being an audience of my stories. May the blog be filled with more posts in terms of quantity and quality.

This week is quite normal already, there were less and less CCA activities. I finally can come back to my hall room earlier.

The sad news is one of my friends, Marcellino, failed the medical check-up because he is diagnosed with tuberculosis and needed to go back to Medan to cure the disease, and can be admitted back to NTU after the disease is cured. Hence, he must wait until the next academic year to be admitted back to NTU. We celebrated the farewell party on Tuesday at Block 54 TV Lounge around 11pm.

Thursday was union day. On this day, some classes are cancelled because of the event. Union day is the day to cast our vote to elect our school club’s main committees. This day too, I met my academic mentor, Dr Li Mo, at his office. Our meeting was very short as it was just introducing myself and he get to know me a little bit. At evening, the make-up class for the union day was held. It was my first lecture at evening.

On Friday, many events happened. First, I almost late to attend the lecture at 0930 because of me doing laundry. Second, SCE held a student-mentor lunch at Nanyang Auditorium to gather all the mentors and students in which my mentor did not attend. Third, international students are to collect their student pass of which I collect around 1.30 pm. Lastly, at the evening, I attend NTU Buddhist Society Annual General Meeting which results in a new management committee. Actually, at the time of AGM, I also wanted to attend NTU Open Source Society Welcome Tea, but it was impossible to attend 2 events at the same time.

On Saturday, PINTU held a recreational game called T-SPRAY (Traditional Sports Day) 2013 which commemorates the 68th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence day. We also played modern games like Futsal and Captain’s Ball. The event was fun but it made me got tanned again.

On Sunday, I went to Buddhist Fellowship. This time, we got on time to attend the Sunday Service from the beginning. The dhamma talk is about happiness of giving, helping others, and unconditional love. At the evening, I went swimming and ate dinner at Canteen 1 of which I seen Dr Li Fang, lecturer of CZ1002, was there too but I was unsure so I didn’t greet her.
